23/8/08- RHIW 3-0 S SISTERS
Troedyrhiw kicked off their Division Three campaign at home to Severn Sisters. Troedyrhiw started brightly, and the pace off their attacks were causing problems for the visitors. Rhiw took the lead through Glen Hagerty from a Rhys Nolan cross. The second came after good work by Chris Stentiford resulting in him finding Owen McGill free to tap in. Early in the second half, Rhiw were down to ten men with Owen McGill being sent off for retaliation after receiving an elbow to the face which the referee failed to see. Although with ten men it was Rhiw who scored again with another Rhys Nolan cross finding Glen Hagerty to head home. Pendry came to Rhiw's rescue on one occasion but werent really troubled through the game.

16/8/08- WELSH CUP LOSS
Troedyrhiw opened their season with a pre-liminary Welsh Cup tie away to Briton Ferry. In an even game, it was the home side who took the lead in the second half. Rhiw equalised with a good strike from Kevin Robins. As the game was closing, the home side broke away, the outrushing Pendry was beaten to the ball by the striker who found the net. The game finished 2-1 and the home side will go through to the first round.
9/8/08- RHIW 4-0 ABERTILLERY
Abertillery who have just dropped out of the Welsh League into the Gwent County were the last warm up match for Troedyrhiw going into the new season. In terrible conditions, Rhiw played excellent football throughout and took an early lead through Ian Cannon. Former Abertillery player Kevin Robbins scored Rhiw's second after following a shot which the keeper spilled. It wasnt until the second half until Rhiw scored again through Ian Cannnon with a superb all round goal finished off excellently. The last goal of the game came through Luke Jones, who found the top corner from the edge of the box from a cleared corner. Troedyrhiw start their season next week travelling to Briton Ferry in the pre-liminary round of the Welsh Cup.
1/8/08- BRECON 1-2 RHIW
Brecon Corries of the South Wales Senior League were the latest warm up match for Troedyrhiw FC. With almost a full squad for the first time this pre-season, Rhiw looked a lot stronger than in previous games. Rhiw took the lead through Chris Stentiford with another well taken goal. The home side equalised just after the break from a corner. For the remainder of the game, Rhiw took control and took the lead with a very good goal finished off by Greg Bedham, which proved to be the winner.
26/7/08- RHIW 0-3 LLANGEINOR
LLangeinor of Division Two Welsh League were the visitors for the latest warm up game. With so many unavailabilities, Rhiw did well to field a team and matched the team from a higher division. Llangeinor took an early lead and were in control first half. The second half was a much better performance from Rhiw who were now controlling the game. Rhiw couldnt turn possession in to any real chances and it was the visitors who added 2 late goals on the break. Rhiw's next friendly is on friday away to Brecon Corries, 6.30 kick off.
22/7/08- RHIW 1-5 TAFFS WELL
Welsh league division one side Taffs Well were the latest team Troedyrhiw faced in preperation for the new season. Troedyrhiw were trying out players again but matched the division one side for much of the match. Taffs Well were much sharper on the break and much more clinical. Rhiw's scorer was again Chris Stentiford with a well worked goal. Rhiw's next game is against Llangeinor at The Grove Fields saturday 26th at 2.00pm.
19/7/08- RHIW 1-1 GARW

10/5/08- RELEGATED
Troedyrhiw knew they had to beat Caerau Ely at The Willows and then hope for other results to go their way to avoid relegation. Rhiw took to the challenge and took control of the game from the start. Chances came but were not taken and on one rare attack from Caerau, they took a surprise lead. The second half was totally dominated by Rhiw, but Rhiw couldnt find the goals they needed. As the game was closing in, Caerau broke away and a cross was put into his own goal by Michael Cope. The Willows fell silent, nobody in the ground could believe that Rhiw didnt win the game, but it was the way the season has gone for Rhiw and they will now play Division Three football next season.0-2
7/5/08- DOWN TO SATURDAY
Troedyrhiw faced Briton Ferry at The Willows knowing a point or better would send their visitors down and take their own fight down to the last saturday. Rhiw fell behind midway through the first half when a Ferry player was left free to head into the net. Rhiw's season's luck continued as injuries forced changes again. The second half saw Rhiw up their game and realised that they needed to act or would be relegated. Rhiw equalised when a cross fell to Carl Harbord who found the net. Rhiw were now in control and soon took the lead through a Glen Hagerty header. The three points looked to be on its way but with ten minutes remaining, Ferry equalised with a 20 yard strike. Rhiw were stunned but immediately fought back and almost got a winner with minutes remaining but unfortunately Hagerty's shot just passed the post. The draw saw Ferry the second team relegated after Pontyclun, and now Rhiw must win saturday against Caerau Ely and hope other results go in their favour.2-2
5/5/08- RHIW LOSE
Troedyrhiw travelled to the capital to face the students of UWIC. Rhiw got off to a great start when Stephen Minett's free kick found its way past the home keeper into the net. Rhiw were pretty comfortable early on, but as the half went on, the home side upped their game. Chances were coming at both ends but the half finished 0-1. The students didnt play it like an end of season game and seemed like they had everything to play for with their second half performance. They equalised from a corner with a player left free to turn and volley home from close in. Rhiw's performance dropped and were soon behind, yet again from a corner, when Stephen Minett headed in to his own net. Rhiw tried to get themselves back on terms and had a couple of chances but failed to take them. The home side also had chances but keeper Pendry pulled off some great saves to see the game end 2-1. Rhiw now have a crucial game at home against fellow relegation battlers Briton ferry. Rhiw must not lose this game which will send the visitors down and gave Rhiw a good chance on the last day of staying up.
30/4/08- RHIW LOSE
Promotion chasing Ely Rangers were the midweek visitors to The Willows, with both teams needing wins for different reasons. The away side came out flying and took a 3-0 lead into half time. Rhiw didnt know what hit them and came out second half with a better performance. Rhiw pulled a goal back through Adam Lewis, with a good strike. Within a minute though, the away side scored again. The game was going from end to end now and Rhiw scored again through Stephen Minett to make it 2-4. Yet again though, Rhiw conceded another quick goal to dent any comeback hopes. Rhiw continued to attack and were awarded a penalty, which was scored by Brent Hewitt for 3-5. Both teams attacked and the game went from end to end, with both teams having good chances to increase their scores, but the game ended 3-5.
26/4/08- DECISIONS DECIDE
Troedyrhiw travelled to bottom side Briton Ferry, knowing a win or draw would send the home side down. Rhiw were awfull first half and were lucky to be 1-0 down at half time. Rhiw came out second half much the better side, and after a couple of changes, dominated. Ceri Kinsey equalised for Rhiw after good work from Adam Callan, found him free to head in. Kinsey also hit the crossbar, and Rhiw missed a few chances to go in front. As the game was heading for a valuable draw, the referee gave the home side a gift, giving a penalty to the disbelief of everyone in the ground. The home side scored and Rhiw were down to ten after some strong words from Michael Williams, saw him sent off. Rhiw stormed up the other end looking to equalise and just as Adam Callan was about to fire goal-wards, he was pushed to the ground. The referee decided to be the only person in the ground to disagree and turned down a blatant second penalty claim from Rhiw. The game ended with everyone associated from Rhiw angry, and everyone with Ferry delighted that the referee had turned up.2-1
23/4/08- RHIW WIN
Troedyrhiw faced Llangeinor for the second time in two weeks, looking to avenge their 2-1 defeat. Rhiw didnt get going first half, but still took the lead through Ceri Kinsey. After some strong words at half time, Rhiw upped their game a little. A few changes were made and Rhiw dominated, scoring three quick goals through Adam Callan, who took the goals well. As the game was coming to an end, the away side scored a cracking consolation goal
21/4/08- RESERVES FINISH OFF SEASON WITH LOSS
Troedyrhiw's second team finished off their successfull first ever season with an away loss to Cefn Coed 3-2. Rhiw took the lead through Simon Griffiths, but were pegged back after keeper Neil Winstone's mistake. Rhiw regained the lead through legend Richard 'jerry bow' Jeremiah, playing his last game. The home side though capitalised on more mistakes to score two more goals to win the game. Well done to Rolland House and the boys for a very successfull first season, and good luck to the legend Jerry Bow.
19/4/08- RHIW HELD
Troedyrhiw hosted local rivals Treharris Athletic in a derby match both needed to win. Troedyrhiw dominated the first half hour and took the lead through Ceri Kinsey. Rhiw added a second when the Treharris keeper dropped the ball to Karl Callans feet for an easy tap in, but for some reason the linesman listened to desperate claims for anything off the away side and dis-allowed it. The away keeper pulled off a couple of brilliant saves to deny Rhiw and it was 1-0 at half time. The second half was nip and tuck and the away side slowed the game to their pace, and started to get into it more and more. They almost equalised but Pendry pulled off a great save to deny them. As the game looked like it was going to fizzle to an end, some mistakes allowed Kevin Bounds in to strike, which took a slight deflection and found the net. As the full time whistle went, Rhiw were distraught and the away side celebrated. Hopefully both sides will meet again next season in division two.1-1
15/4/08- RHIW WIN
Troedyrhiw travelled to Cardiff Corries, who were third in the table and looking for promotion. Rhiw started with ten men while they waited for Adam Callan to finish work, and this paid off when his cross found Stephen Minett who found the net to give Rhiw a lead. Rhiw usually throw a lead away but they added to their score when Adam Callan turned in the box and beat the keeper. In the second half the home side nearly pulled one back but Jason Pendry pulled off a great save. The ball was cleared down the field and Rhiw turned defence into attack. Adam Callan burst through and rounded the keeper to score from a tight angle. Rhiw were dominant and nearly added on a couple of occasions. As the game came to a close, Corries scored a consolation which seemed a couple of yards offside. Great win for Rhiw and well deserved.1-3
15/4/08- RESERVES WIN
Troedyrhiw's second side also had a fine win, beating Gurnos SC 5-2. The goals came from Ian Winstone who scored four, and James Collins.
12/4/08- TWO HALVES
Troedyrhiw travelled to fellow strugglers Llangeinor with a depleated side, needing a good result. Rhiw started the game really well and forced the home side backwards early on. Rhiw took the lead when Ceri Kinsey forced the ball home from 15 yards. Rhiw dominated the first half and looked to add to the score but were unable to. The start of the second half was a reverse of the first as the home side came at Rhiw. The equaliser came and it affected Rhiw, making players lose a bit of confidence. The home side scored another quick goal to Rhiw's dispair. Rhiw did settle down a bit towards the end and almost equalised on a couple of occasions but things are just not running our way at the moment. A busy few weeks ahead, Rhiw will look to get some points on the board, with most games being played at home and against fellow strugglers.2-1
5/4/08- MISSED CHANCES
Troedyrhiw entertained fellow relegation strugglers Pontyclun at The Willows. Rhiw almost took the lead on a few occasions in the first half and probably should have with clear chances being missed. The second half went the same way with a number of clear chances, somehow all being missed, which on a different day could have been 4 or 5 nil. Again Rhiw's failure to score has cost Rhiw 2 extra vital points.0-0
1/4/08- RESERVES LOSE
Troedyrhiw's reserve side faced Morlais Tavern for the second time in two weeks, and again somehow lost the game. The away side scored with a 30 yard free-kick in their ownly real chance of the game. Its the same story for both sides of troedyrhiw at the moment with them dominant in games but unable to score, either through poor finishing or the posts stopping them. A decent performance in a great first season.
29/3/08- DOMINANT RHIW LOSE
Troedyrhiw travelled to Ely Rangers looking to gain some much needed points. Rhiw started brightly and hit the bar through Gareth Harbord. The home side though, had their ten minutes midway through the half, and through some poor defending all round, Rhiw conceded two quick goals, the first a lucky deflected own goal. Rhiw got back in control of the game and dominated throughout. The second half was almost one way, and Rhiw thought their luck had changed when good work by Adam Callan resulted in him going through on goal only to be brought down. The home player was sent off but Richie Collins' penalty was saved. Rhiw had chances after chances but couldnt find the net. The home side had a couple of breaks of their own late on but Pendry pulled off some good saves. It wasnt Rhiw's day again but we have to start finding the net, especially when so in control of games.2-0.
22/3/08- RHIW HELD
Troedyrhiw entertained Llanwern at The Willows looking to better their draw between them earlier in the season. Rhiw started well and took the lead after hard work from Richie Collins resulted in the ball falling for him goal-bound. Richie coolly finished to give Rhiw a deserved lead which remained until half time. Rhiw continued to be in control after the break and had a couple of decent chances to add to their score. Rhiw's missed chances came back to haunt them, when Lanwern scored from a corner while Rhiw slept. This lifted the away side and the game became much more open. Neither side could find a winner and probably a draw was a fair result.1-1
22/3/08- RESERVES LOSE
Troedyrhiw's Reserve side faced a difficult away game against the Baili Glas with only 11 players available. This was made harder when Richard Jones had to leave the field early on injured, resulting with Rhiw playing with ten. Rhiw lost the game 5-1, Michael Williams scoring a penalty for Rhiw.
19/3/08- NEW MANAGER
Troedyrhiw FC are proud to announce the appointment of Cohen Griffiths as manager. A former Cardiff City and Merthyr Tydfil player who as also coached at various levels, will bring a wealth of experience to Troedyrhiw's push for safety. Cohen will take over immediately and everybody at Troedyrhiw FC welcomes him to the club.
15/3/08- RHIW V UWIC-OFF
Troedyrhiw's Welsh League Division Two match at UWIC was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Results went Rhiw's way on the day though, with the teams below losing.
15/3/08- RESERVES LOSE
Troedyrhiw's reserves were home to Morlais Tavern but lost the game 1-2. Rhiw were off their game first half but the score was 0-0 half time. Early in the second half Rhiw lost posession on the edge of their own box and conceded a sloppy goal. Changes were made and Rhiw took control of the game. Chances came and Rhiw finally equalised through Ian Cleary. There seemed there was only going to be one winner from there on with Morlais only managing the odd break. Rhiw pushed for the winner but the away side were the next to score after a free kick rebounded off the bar to their player for an easy tap in. A shocked Rhiw pushed again for an equaliser and were denied one by the referee when Glen Hagerty beat the offside trap and scored only for the ref to give offside against a player on the opposite side of the field not invovled. It wasnt to be Rhiw's day and the away side stole the 3 points.1-2
13/3/08- JENKINS RESIGNS
John Jenkins has resigned as manager of the Welsh League team. John decided he didnt have the backing of everybody at the club and decided to stand down. Rhiw will now look to find his successor as soon as possible. Anyone interested will need to contact Chairman Roger Howells on 07769878627. Everybody at the club wishes John all the best for the future.
8/3/08- RHIW CONCEDE LATE
Troedyrhiw welcomed high flyers Cardiff Corries to The Willows on a rain soaked day. Rhiw had the best of the first half and scored through stand in striker Glen Hagerty. The second half so the field turn into a bog, and both teams struggled to play the ball. The turning point in the game was when Ian Winstone found himself with just the keeper to beat, as he rounded him the keeper stuck out an arm three yards outside the box which the referee failed to see, which would have resulted in him leaving the field with Rhiw on top. Rhiw's level dropped and Corries lifted, and a goal followed when a long range shot took a wicked deflection and somehow beat Pendry goals. The away side raised to look for the winner and it came late on with a counter attack. Rhiw felt they deerved something out of the game but on the day it wasnt their day.1-2
8/3/08- RESERVES OFF
Troedyrhiw's Reserves game was called off against Cefn Coed today because of a waterlogged pitch.
1/3/08- RHIW EARN DRAW
Troedyrhiw travelled to Cardiff to face a difficult game against Caerau Ely. In difficult conditions, Rhiw played with the wind and struggled to get their passing game going. Rhiw had a couple of good chances but failed to take them. The second half, against the wind, Rhiw played much better football and controlled the game, again having decent chances to win the game but unable to convert. 0-0
1/3/08- SECONDS LOSS
Troedyrhiw's second side were at home to The Anchor today but although managing to get a decent side out, lost the game 3-0. Rhiw didnt play very well on the day and the early injuries didnt help matters. Rhiw's seconds will look to bounce back next week away to Cefn Coed.0-3
23/2/08- WHAT A DAY FOR RHIW
It was a good day for Troedyrhiw FC, with both firsts and seconds winning against title chasing teams. What made it even nicer was that both teams were depleated due to unavailabilities. The Welsh League side overcame Bettws, who disposed of Barry Town the previous week. Rhiw fell behind in the first half through a dubious free kick. Rhiw didnt let it get to them and played the better of the football throughout. The deserved equaliser came when Chris Siers powered a header home. Rhiw knew they were on top and pushed for the winner. This came from a well worked goal finished off with a Adam Callan header to earn Rhiw a well deserved 3 points. The seconds faced a difficult game away to league leaders Georgetown. Going behind twice, Rhiw battled back both occasions and eventually went on to win the game 3-2. Two excellent goals from Richard Jones and Michael Williams, and another from Glen Hagerty.
16/2/08- TEN MAN RHIW DRAW
West End were the visitors to The Willows to face a Rhiw side looking to bounce back after a humiliating defeat the previous week. Rhiw welcomed back a couple of experienced players and had probably the strongest side they have been able to field for some time. There wasnt much between the teams throughout the game and Rhiw were growing in confidence, when Ceri Kinsey was shown a red card for a confrontation. Rhiw didnt fall apart though like previously, and battled on to earn a decent point.0-0
16/2/08- RHIW 2NDS LOSE
Troedyrhiw's second side faced a difficult away fixture against Gellideg. With yet again a depleated side because of first team call ups and other reasons, Rhiw found themselves 2-1 up against the team above them in the table, but were unable to hold on giving some sloppy goals away to lose 3-2. Ian Cleary scored both Rhiw goals.
9/2/08- DAY TO FORGET
Troedyrhiw visited top team Barry Town knowing they would be in for a tough day. Rhiw got off to the worst start against an in form Barry, when they conceded in the first few minutes. Two more soon followed before Rhiw started playing, holding out at three nil half time. As the second half went on, the fitness of the home side showed and Rhiw's heads collapsed allowing Barry to run riot, making it Rhiw's worst ever defeat.7-0
9/2/08- RHIW 2NDS WIN
Troedyrhiw's second side faced Pennydarren seconds at The Grove in a top of the table clash. With so many players away, Rhiw called on some experience to help out which paid dividends. Rhiw won the game 3-1 with goals from Glen Hagerty, Ian Winstone and Michael Williams.3-1
2/2/08- RHIW 2NDS WIN
Troedyrhiw's second side continued their winning run with an away win at Gurnos. Rhiw went 1-0 down in the first half against an eager Gurnos side. Towards the end of the game fitness and quality came through and Rhiw scored four late goals through, Adam Callan, Glen Hagerty, Michael Williams and Neil Evans.1-4
2/2/08- FIRSTS OFF
Troedyrhiw's Welsh League Division Two match at home to Briton Ferry was called off due to a frozen pitch. The game will be re-arranged.
26/1/08- TEN MEN RHIW BEATEN
Troedyrhiw were yet again let down by discipline in this local derby against rivals Tredegar Town. Rhiw fell behind after ten minutes, when a Tredegar player was left alone in the box to volley over Jason Pendry's head. Minutes later Stephen Minett went through on goal but after his shot went wide, the referee adjudged him to have kicked out at the tackler, and showed him the red card. Rhiw surprisingly started playing a little better and had a couple of chances to equalise, but it was the home side who took control of the game and went on to score two more goals. A disappointing day but could have been a lot worse had Tredegar taken their chances.3-0
26/1/08- RESERVES WIN
Troedyrhiw's second team finally played a game after over a month without football against bottom team Heolgerrig. Troedyrhiw ran out 6-0 winners, the scorers were Glen Hagerty 3, Ian Winstone 2 and Michael Williams.
19/1/08- IMPORTANT WIN
Troedyrhiw looked to bounce back after two defeats, at home to Ammanford who were just above Rhiw in the table. Rhiw fell a goal behind early on but soon equalised through Chris Siers. Rhiw added to this with two quick goals, a free kick from Stephen Minett deflected in and a very well worked goal finished off by Richie Collins. Just before the break the away side pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 at half time. Rhiw got on top early second half in a game that seemed to go end to end. A Stephen Minett corner kick somehow found the net with a little help from the away keeper, which was spotted by the referee to have crossed the line. Rhiw could have added to the score but missed opportunities. Ammanford kept going and managed to get a consolation goal towards the end.4-3
19/1/08 RESERVES GAME OFF
Troedyrhiw's Reserve game away to the Morlais Tavern was called off due to the weather.
12/1/08- RHIW AWAY LOSS
Troedyrhiw travelled to Cwmbran to face Cwmbran Celtic who sat a few places above in the table. Rhiw found themselves two nil down quite early on and never got going in the first half. A brent Hewitt free kick brought Rhiw back in the game just before the break. The start of the second half started like the first and Rhiw conceded instantly making a comeback more difficult. Towards the end of the game Rhiw put some pressure on and nearly scored on a couple of occasions, but it was not to be and Rhiw probably got the result they deserved.3-1
12/1/08 RESERVES GAME OFF
Troedyrhiw's Reserve game at home against Pennydarren was called off due to the weather.
5/1/08- TEN MAN RHIW BEATEN
High flyers Garden Village were the visitors to The willows for Rhiw's first game in weeks. Rhiw started well but soon allowed the visitors in to the game who looked dangerous in set pieces. Just before the break Rhiw upped their game and took the lead through Alun Thomas. At the start of the second half Rhiw controlled the game and added a second through a Brent Hewitt free kick. Rhiw could have finished the game off when an Ian Cleary effort was well tipped over by the Village keeper. With Rhiw dominant, the game turned when a moment of madness from Gareth Harbord turned the game on its head. Referee saw his tackle as dangerous and showed him red after appeals from the away side. Rhiw tried to hold out but the long ball game from the visitors caused problems and the away side scored four goals in the last half hour to steal all three points.2-4

Shellshocked Rhiw couldnt find their feet until midway through the half, after a change of formation, Rhiw began to dominate. Richie Collins won and scored a penalty before Adam Callan equalised on half time. Rhiw came out second half confident and took control of the game. Stephen Minett's cross found the back of the net before the goal of the game finished off by Richie Collins made it 2-4. The home side came into it towards the end but didnt really trouble Rhiw.2-4
15/12/07- DEPLEATED SECONDS LOSE

Troedyrhiw entertained Division One side Pontardawe Town in the second round of the Nathanial League cup. With another depleated Rhiw squad, there was a chance for five second team players to show what they can do. Rhiw fought out an equally shared first half but couldnt find the net while their visitors managed to just before the break. Rhiw went a goal down early on but battled back playing some good football at times. Rhiw could have equalised a couple of times before being awarded a penalty just before Adam Callan was about to find an empty net. After consultation with his linesman, the referee amazingly changed his mind and gave a throw in to rhiw. A few bookings followed and a Rhiw in dissarray conceded 2 qiuick goals. Rhiw came out second half trying to forget the first half farce and gave a decent performance but it was the home side who added to the score with a 30 yard cracker. 15/8/07- EXPLOSIVE DERBY
Troedyrhiw played out their first derby of the season at local rivals Treharris Athletic in an explosive encounter. Rhiw had a dream start when Stephen Minett fired in at the near post from 20 yards. Rhiw were dominant and should have gone further in front on numerous occasions with either poor finishing or the crossbar preventing a deserved higher lead. After half an hour the game flared up when Ceri Kinsey was fouled and then pushed in the face. Retaliation by Kinsey saw him receive a red card and to the surprise of everyone a yellow for the Treharris player. Shortly after it was ten each when a red card was given to a Treharris player. Just before the break Treharris broke away and were gifted a surprise equaliser. Troedyrhiw were disappointed but came out second half dominant, and took a deserved lead from a corner which was re-directed back across goal by Gareth Harbord and deflected in by a Treharris defender. Chances again went begging before another surprise equaliser after a fumble by keeper Pendry allowed an easy tap in.

5/1/08- TEN MAN RHIW BEATEN
